Gynecomastia surgery in Bangalore
Every week I see men who have carried this for years — compression shirts under everything, no swimming, supplements and chest workouts that never worked. They never were going to: gynecomastia is glandular tissue, not just fat. Surgery can correct it, and most of the assessment can happen from home, from two photos.
Quick summary
- True gynecomastia is firm glandular tissue behind the nipple; it doesn't respond to diet or exercise. Chest fat alone (pseudogynecomastia) is treated differently.
- Surgery combines liposuction with removal of the gland where needed — 60 to 90 minutes, as day care.
- Grade I–II cases are usually done under local anaesthesia with sedation; higher grades may need general anaesthesia.
- Most men return to desk work in 5–7 days and wear a compression vest for 4 weeks; the final contour is visible at about 3 months.
- Cost starts from ₹75,000 in Bangalore and from about AED 15,000 in Dubai, depending on grade, technique and anaesthesia.

Is it right for you?
The first question is whether it's gynecomastia at all. True gynecomastia is firm, rubbery glandular tissue directly behind the nipple. Pseudogynecomastia is fat only. A clinical examination — or photos at the start — tells them apart, and the treatment differs: fat alone needs liposuction; true gynecomastia needs the gland removed.
Surgery is usually right for you if:
- The enlargement has been present for a while and bothers you in clothes or without a shirt.
- Your weight is reasonably stable.
- Any medicine, supplement or hormonal cause has been looked at first — dealing with the cause reduces the chance of tissue returning.
- You are in good general health.

Treatment by grade
Mostly fat, small gland
Often treated with liposuction alone — at the lower end of the price range, usually under local anaesthesia with sedation.
Gland plus fat
Liposuction plus removal of the gland through a small incision at the edge of the areola. The most common presentation.
Larger chest, possible skin excess
May need general anaesthesia, and sometimes additional skin tightening. Planned individually at consultation.
After previous surgery
Residual tissue or irregular contour after surgery elsewhere is assessed case by case.
The grades follow Simon's classification. How gynecomastia is graded
On the day
Gynecomastia surgery is day care: you arrive, have surgery and go home the same evening. Grade I and II cases are usually done under local anaesthesia with oral or IV sedation — no general anaesthesia or breathing tube. Grade III–IV cases may need general anaesthesia; the plan is confirmed at consultation.
The operation takes 60 to 90 minutes. You leave in a compression vest and are walking within a few hours. Moderate soreness is controlled with oral painkillers.
Recovery, step by step
- Day 1
Home the same evening in a compression vest. Walking within a few hours. Moderate soreness, controlled with oral painkillers.
- Week 1
Most desk-based patients return to work. Swelling is normal. Driving once you're off strong painkillers.
- Week 2
Bruising resolves. Light walking encouraged — no gym yet. The vest stays on.
- Week 6
About 70% of the final result is visible. The vest comes off during the day. Lower-body training resumes; no chest pressing yet.
- Month 3
The final chest contour is established. Full activity and full gym. We review your result.
The compression vest is worn continuously for 4 weeks. Chest exercise is avoided for 4–6 weeks; contour keeps refining to about 6 months.
Results
Once the glandular tissue has been removed, recurrence is uncommon. The fat component can return if you gain weight, and if the original cause was a medicine or hormone, dealing with that first lowers the chance of residual tissue coming back.
The aim is a flat, natural chest contour that suits your build. Scars sit at the edge of the areola and usually fade well. Results vary between individuals.
Risks & safety
Expected and usually temporary: swelling, bruising and numbness around the chest and nipples.
Less common: a collection of blood (haematoma) or fluid (seroma), asymmetry, contour irregularities, changes in nipple sensation, residual tissue, noticeable scarring, infection, and over-resection that leaves a hollow under the nipple ("crater" deformity) — which careful planning is designed to avoid.
Serious complications are uncommon. A thorough pre-operative assessment is done before surgery is recommended, and your personal risks are discussed at consultation.

What moves the number
- Grade — Grade I liposuction-only cases sit at the lower end; Grade II–III needing gland removal are mid-range.
- Anaesthesia — local with sedation or general.
- Operating time — higher-grade cases take longer.
The price isn't moved by bargaining or by rushing. If the quote is outside your budget, say so at the consultation — an honest, smaller plan is better than an upsell.

Questions patients ask
What is gynecomastia surgery?
Gynecomastia surgery removes excess breast tissue in men — usually a combination of glandular tissue and fat — to create a flatter, more masculine chest. It is a day-care procedure, performed under local anaesthesia with sedation or under general anaesthesia, and typically takes 60 to 90 minutes.
Do I need to visit the clinic before surgery?
Not necessarily. Most patients complete the first consultation remotely with two photos on WhatsApp and a short video or voice call. Pre-operative blood tests can be done at a diagnostic centre near you. Many patients come to the clinic once, on surgery day.
How much does gynecomastia surgery cost in Bangalore?
With Dr Sanjog in Bangalore, gynecomastia surgery starts from ₹75,000. The final cost depends on your grade, whether liposuction alone or gland removal is needed, and the type of anaesthesia. A confirmed quote follows your consultation, which can start on WhatsApp.
How much does gynecomastia surgery cost in Dubai?
In Dubai, gynecomastia surgery with Dr Sanjog starts from about AED 15,000, depending on your grade, whether gland removal is needed, the anaesthesia and the facility. Your quote follows consultation, and 5% VAT applies in the UAE.
How long is recovery?
Most men return to desk work within five to seven days. A compression vest is worn for four weeks, and chest exercise is avoided for four to six weeks. The final chest contour is visible at about three months, with gradual refinement up to six months.
Is it gynecomastia or just chest fat?
Gynecomastia is firm glandular tissue directly behind the nipple that doesn't respond to diet or exercise. Pseudogynecomastia is fat only. A clinical examination — or photos at the start — tells them apart. Chest fat alone is treated with liposuction; true gynecomastia needs the gland removed.
What anaesthesia is used?
Grade I and II cases are usually performed under local anaesthesia with oral or IV sedation — no general anaesthesia, no breathing tube, and home the same day. Grade III–IV cases may need general anaesthesia. The anaesthesia plan is confirmed at your consultation.
Can gynecomastia come back after surgery?
Recurrence is uncommon once the glandular tissue has been removed. The fat component can return if your weight increases. If the cause was hormonal or linked to a medicine or supplement, addressing it before surgery lowers the chance of any residual tissue returning.
Is gynecomastia surgery safe?
It is a well-established procedure with a low rate of serious complications. Swelling, bruising and temporary numbness are expected. Haematoma, asymmetry and infection can occur but are uncommon. A thorough pre-operative assessment is done before surgery is recommended, and risks are discussed individually.
Who will perform my surgery?
