After the procedure, you can expect to feel groggy and disoriented. This is due to the effects of anaesthesia on the brain. It may take several hours for the drugs to fully wear off. You may also have some side effects such as nausea, vomiting, or a sore throat, but these are usually temporary and can be managed with medication.
Start with sips of water every 10 minutes gradually. You can have khichadi/ idli. If at any point in time, you feel like vomiting stop and inform the sister whom I have instructed to give anti-vomiting medication. Normal diet to be resumed from the next day.
Please expect some amount of discomfort/ pain. If you think the pain is unbearable then please talk to the sister whom I have instructed to give higher painkillers if required.
It may not be possible to have a shower till the dressing is removed. I suggest sponge bathing till we remove the dressing on day 3-4.
Post-discharge a painkiller will be prescribed which you can take on a and when basis (but not to exceed 3 tablet/ day)
In a typical case we will do two dressings - one around day 3-4 where the bulky dressing will be removed and the second one around day 12-14 where stitches will be removed.
I strongly suggest either of these clinics for follow-up where the logistics for dressing are in place Whitefield - https://goo.gl/maps/MfA7kydtnfiiX74T6 Kalyan Nagar - https://goo.gl/maps/gxf8s6q1VFc49QbX9
Day and time we can subsequently and mutually agree upon.
Compression garment on the first dressing is a must and must be brought during the time of first dressing.
There is no diet restriction, and the diet you were following before surgery needs to be followed. A special emphasis on a vegetarian source of protein like paneer and dal can be made in the first week especially if you have a tendency for constipation.
You can resume normal day-to-day activity from the next day of surgery. Exercise is to be avoided till the removal of stitches and chest exercise is to be avoided till 1 month
